In a strategic move aimed at maximizing operational efficiency, Carrefour Romania introduces the “pay-per-task” model for the first time on the local market. Through a partnership with Lithuanian startup Traxlo, the French giant is turning nearby customers into “casual workers” for one-off tasks, an innovation that comes at a time of effervescence for the company.
What does the “Pay-per-Task” model mean?
Unlike classic employment, where payment is made by the hour or by fixed salary, the model implemented through the Tasku platform (managed by Traxlo) works on the principle of the collaborative economy (gig economy).
App users can choose specific tasks in nearby Carrefour stores — such as “picking” (collecting products from the shelf) for online orders. Once the task is completed and digitally verified (including through photo evidence), payment is transferred per activity.
“We are introducing an additional level of operational flexibility”, explains Bogdan Moise, Carrefour Romania E-commerce Director. In a fast delivery market where every minute counts, this on-demand model allows stores to handle peak orders (e.g. on weekends or holidays) without overtaxing in-house teams.
For a person interested in earning additional income, the process is digitized and simplified, reminiscent of ridesharing or food delivery applications. It all starts with downloading the Tasku application and creating a user account, where the person defines their availability and proximity to Carrefour stores. Once logged in, the user views a map with the tasks available in real time (for example: “Collect products for 5 online orders” or “Dairy district stock check”), each with the fixed amount that will be paid upon completion.
After accepting a mission, the application provides a quick training guide (micro-training) to ensure the correctness of the execution. The user goes to the store, scans the products or prepares them for delivery, and finally confirms the completion of the work by uploading supporting photos to the platform. After the system or store staff validates the task, the payment is automatically processed in the user’s digital wallet, thus offering total freedom: you can choose to work just one hour on a Saturday morning or turn this model into a daily activity, without the obligations of a fixed-time work contract.
A workforce for the AI era
The startup Traxlo, which has just launched in Romania, recently attracted investments of 1.6 million euros from important funds such as Plug & Play and Iron Wolf Capital. Their technology is not just about physical labor, but about creating a data infrastructure where every movement in the warehouse is monitored and optimized by algorithms, paving the way for full automation.
Partnership details:
- Coverage area: Approximately 350 Carrefour stores are already integrated.
- Goal: Increasing the speed of processing online orders, without increasing the number of permanent employees.
- Technology: The process is supported by digital training materials, ensuring a quality standard controlled by real-time reporting.
