The Best Gelato Shops in Bucharest

Share

Pistachio is a useful starting point for comparing gelato shops, but it does not tell you everything about a display. Sorbets, combinations with herbs and the way ice cream is served offer other reasons to return. These six Bucharest places suit different stops, from a cone on a walk to a coffee-and-dessert break.

1. Velocità

Velocità is easy to include in a walk along Calea Victoriei, where its shop at number 122 has become a landmark. San Biaggio pistachio, Madagascar vanilla and Alfonso mango are among the flavours that indicate the house style. A cup with one creamy flavour and one fruit option lets you compare without mixing too many together.

Coffee is also part of the offering, and affogato joins the two specialities in one dessert. Espresso poured over ice cream changes the texture from the first spoonful to the last, so enjoy it on the spot. Velocità suits anyone who wants a brief pause before continuing through the centre.

2. Gran Gelato Italiano

Gran Gelato Italiano, on Strada Radu Vodă, offers gelato away from the familiar Calea Victoriei route. Pistachio and chocolate-hazelnut combinations are natural starting points alongside whichever fruit flavours are available that day. The current display matters more than a fixed list of flavours, which can change.

Combine a stop with a walk between Piața Unirii and Tineretului. On a first visit, one familiar flavour and one spontaneous choice are enough: the first gives you a reference point and the second something to discover. Gran Gelato suits an outing focused on ice cream, without needing a full meal beforehand.

3. Delicii Gelato

Delicii Gelato, with its address on Strada Constantin Aricescu, also works as a neighbourhood stop for coffee and affogato. Salted caramel, vanilla, nuts and dark chocolate provide familiar choices, while citrus and herb combinations encourage you to read the whole display. Flavours change, including limited editions and collaborations.

A recent example was an ice cream inspired by crème caramel, created in a collaboration with Vlad Antipa of Petra Obor. Treat such appearances as temporary specials rather than permanent fixtures. Delicii is a good choice if you already have a favourite flavour but leave room for a spoonful of something new.

4. Creamier

Creamier, at 5 Strada Benjamin Franklin, combines ice cream and coffee with a break near the Romanian Athenaeum. Its position a little away from Calea Victoriei makes it convenient after a central walk. Other desserts mean you can bring someone who would prefer a cake to a cone.

Choose from the day’s flavours and keep the combination simple, especially when trying floral or fruit notes. An intense flavour can easily overpower a more delicate one. Keep Creamier in mind for its café-and-gelateria format, where you can take your time over dessert between other stops in town.

5. Moritz Eis

Moritz Eis is worth following for sorbets and combinations of fruit with herbs. Lemon and basil or blueberry and lavender illustrate the approach: flavours chosen for freshness as well as sweetness. The current Bucharest offering also includes takeaway tubs in several sizes.

For dinner with friends, a tub with two or three flavours can be more interesting than choosing one for everyone. Check availability and the collection point; the delivery offering lists Strada Frederic Chopin. Moritz is particularly worth considering when you want to bring a frozen dessert to dinner and compare several combinations.

6. Sweetology

Sweetology combines gelato with cheesecakes, making it useful for groups with different cravings. Ice cream can be bought in tubs with several flavours, while cheesecakes range from lime and meringue to chocolate-hazelnut or tiramisu. You can choose one dessert to eat now and another for home.

Some products are presented as sugar-free, with recipes and sweeteners specified separately. That does not automatically make them vegan or lactose-free: cream cheese, mascarpone and milk appear in several recipes. For ice cream, ask about the ingredients of the flavour you want. Sweetology offers alternatives for anyone who is not in the mood for gelato.
