- Club 99 – The pioneer of domestic stand-up, opened in 2008 and founded by the trio Teo, Vio and Costel. It is the first comedy club in Bucharest, recently celebrating 14 years of existence. With a venue of ~120-150 seats, Club 99 offers shows every weekend and open-mic nights for new comedians. It is the place where the “heavies” frequently take the stage (Teo, Vio, Costel and their guests), the tickets sell out quickly – the intimate atmosphere makes laughter echo throughout the hall. In terms of notoriety, Club 99 remains a benchmark: the capital’s stand-up audience was formed here, and the quality of the shows keeps it at the top of fans’ preferences.
- The Fool – A relatively new but much-loved club, opened by veterans Micutzu (Cosmin Nedelcu) and Cătălin Bordea together with impresario Călin Crețu. Located on Calea Victoriei, The Fool quickly became “the coolest comedy club on Victoriei 118”, as they humorously describe themselves on social media. The hall has ~180 seats and hosts performances every night, including original formats (improvisation, roast battles, theme nights). The atmosphere is youthful and energetic – laughter can often be heard all the way to the street. The Fool relies on interactivity and popular names from the new generation of comedians, quickly becoming a pillar of live stand-up in Bucharest.
- Comics Club – Another reference name appeared in recent years, co-founded by Cristian Șora together with other comedians from the “new guard”. Comics Club, based in the Old Town, completes the triad of big stand-up clubs in the city. The capacity is similar (around 150 seats) and it has shows almost every day – a fact made possible thanks to a “nursery” rich in talents that now have a place to perform. Many finalists of the Stand-up Revolution show can be seen on the Comics stage, alongside veterans like Sorin Pârcălab, Toma, Nanticu or Maria Popovici. The club is also notable for its online initiatives – it is co-organizer of the Comedybox.ro platform, the first Romanian stand-up streaming service. In other words, Comics Club is not just a venue, but a true hub of the stand-up community, integrating live performances, content production and special events for fans.
- Cuibul Artistilor – An atypical space, born as an independent theater, which, however, successfully integrated comedy into its offer. The Artists’ Nest (initiated by a group of passionate students, led by Victor Țăpeanu) organizes “donation based” shows, many of them comedies or improvisation. They have over 2000 active performances, totaling over 200,000 spectators gathered in 10 years of activity. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed – their motto is that “life is a series of love plays”, and the audience feels this warmth at every show. Whether it’s funny sketches, stand-up with young comedians or interactive plays, the experience at Cuib takes place in an intimate and unique setting, “an unrepeatable experience, in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere” as they themselves describe it. It is the place where you laugh out loud and leave full of positive energy, knowing that you have also supported an independent cultural initiative.
- Club Zinc – A venue less known to the general public, but highly regarded in underground stand-up circles. Club Zinc frequently organizes open-mic evenings and shows with comedians at the beginning of the journey, practically being a launching pad. The small bar and knowledgeable audience create an intimate atmosphere: jokes are often “work in progress” and feedback comes directly and honestly from the audience. Although it doesn’t have the notoriety of the big clubs, Zinc has gained respect for supporting the emerging stand-up scene – many of today’s comedians tested their first jokes on this club stage.
